York High School

Here’s an amazing CROP Hunger Walk! On a Thursday in October 2006, every student in the freshman class at York High School in Elmhurst participated a CROP Hunger Walk! In social studies classes that week, students examined causes of poverty by studying CWS videos and educational materials. Then they were given tools to respond: students were asked to try to raise $10 each, to make posters about hunger, and to help CWS fight poverty by Walking in a CROP Hunger Walk. As a result of these efforts, the students raised nearly $9,000! Way to go!

Students carried water bottles for a few laps. This helped them understand what it’s like for folks who must carry gallons of water everyday for any household need.

Posters with statistics about poverty, made by the students, surrounded the track.

Why not carry it on your head? Most women around the world do!
