CROP Hunger Walks - Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty

In 75 of the 99 Iowa counties a CROP Hunger Walk is now established as an annual spring or fall event, to collect donations for combating hunger.

Only 24 more Iowa counties and we become state-wide CROP WALK supporters!

If your county isn’t involved, call 800-297-2767 or 515-274-2224, and we’ll gladly send  CROP Resources - start-up information that will show step-by-step how to raise funds to help provide food for hungry people in the U.S. and overseas.

Before your Walk try these ‘TAKES’ …

Walk to enrich prayer life—God is the perfect walk partner, never too busy, a good listener, tolerant of silences, understanding yet challenging, and always there.

Week 6: Take a Walk – Make a Difference!
Walk to connect with a child, leaving electronic games/etc at home for quality 1-to-1 time, to build lasting bonds and memories.

Walk to enhance relationships—Walking can lead naturally to talking and a chance to get to know a friend or partner better, to enjoy each other’s company, or share dreams.

Week 4: Take a Walk – Make a Difference!
Walk for your mental health—Walking increases blood flow to the brain. People can improve thinking skills and become sharper with a regular walking program.

Walk away extra calories—Walking increases the calories your body burns, curbs your appetite for food, and stimulates your appetite for exercise.

Week 2: Take a Walk – Make a Difference!
Walk away the blues—Walking stimulates release of endorphins, the body’s natural anti-depressant. Be mindful of what you see, hear, smell…get a better perspective.

Before to After ideas

  • Put walk date on church calendar
  • Get inserts/articles into newsletters
  • Use bulletin inserts/blurbs each 3-4 weeks before Walk
  • Present ‘Minute for Mission’ each 3-4 weeks before Walk
  • Attach CROP posters to doors of church, classes, bathrooms, exits
  • Hold children’s ‘time’ with a focus on Walk purpose
  • Show CROP Walk video
Walk Day:
  • Commission walkers during worship
  • Ask walkers to bring you their envelopes with money collected. They should keep top sheet for the CROP Walk
  • Remind youth that all bikes, roller blades, scooters, etc. should be left at home or in the car.

  • Turn in money and envelopes to Walk Treasurer as soon as possible, they do not need to be held until all money is collected
  • Have evaluation meeting
