Boy Scout Troup Makes a Difference with School Kits

Assembling School Kits
Pierce Huxtable, right, sewing School Kit bags.

Filing School Kit bagsFilling School Kits bags.
Pierce Huxtable, a Boy Scout from Bay Lakes Council, Neenah Wisconsin, proposed to make 50 CWS School Kits for his Eagle Scout project. He obtained permission and for two months collected supplies by putting boxes inside local businesses, churches and schools. Following a pattern supplied by CWS, Piece determined that he could make three bags for each yard of material and that he would need at least 17 yards to make the 50 Kits. He asked businesses to donate the supplies he needed -- fabric, thread and buttons for the closure.

Pierce got his scout troop to help him make the sturdy cloth bags that hold the supplies for each kit. They worked assembly line style sewing the bags and then completed each School Kit by putting the necessary supplies inside. Pierce raised additional funds to help defray shipping Kits to their final  destination by mowing lawns and doing other fund raisers. Not only did Piece complete his project but he also collected enough school supplies and made enough bags to make 80 School Kits.

Pierce designated his School Kits for children in Afghanistan. He had researched his project through the website and discovered that CWS had sent more than 60,000 School Kits to Afghanistan since 2002.

Congratulations Pierce and thank you to you and your scout troop!
